The Story Behind the Shop
Tricia’s Espresso first opened its doors in June of 2004, by Ricky Davis and his wife, Tricia, as a coffee shop and bakery in the Roxboro Square center. Since then, the family-run coffee shop has expanded, relocating in Jan 2007 to the corner of Abbitt and Lamar Street in Uptown Roxboro across from the court house. This local family-run coffee shop offers more variety than the standard coffee shop; the menu additionally includes a full breakfast and lunch menu offering items such as pancakes, breakfast sandwiches and platters, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, fries and more.
As a former church secretary, Tricia, had a vision for opening a bakery in Roxboro. Ricky brought former restaurant experience from working throughout the years at the Old Country Club Steakhouse and Clarkesville Station. In 2004, the business opportunity presented itself, when a newly opened coffeeshop/bakery went up for sale – Tricia and Ricky leaped upon the opportunity to buy it and make it their own. And that, they did!
Tricia and Ricky decided to move their business to Uptown Roxboro in 2007, due to skyrocketing rent at their former location. They have been more than pleased with the current location of Tricia’s Espresso, which is 2,400 square foot. Working with the building owner and manager initially to pick out colors and renovate the space, to transform what was once Wilson’s Meat Market into a coffee shop.
Customers will notice the warm, cozy atmosphere the minute they step into Tricia’s Espresso, which has a large medium-toned polished wood coffee bar, built by Ricky himself, which serves as a focal point of the shop. The walls are the color of latte, the floor covered in a tile pattern a shade lighter than the walls, with hints of pink. The original tin ceiling is the color of caramel, and the large front windows allow the morning light to fall onto the dining tables and paintings of coffee cups on the walls.
Through the years, the Davis’ family attributes Tricia’s Espresso’s years of success to their loyal customers, community and family who have been by their side throughout the journey. Building relationships and keeping loyal customers happy is what this family shop is all about. Tricia says her absolute favorite spot in the shop is the bar -it promotes conversation and is a favorite for repeat customers. Keeping patrons happy is what keeps us going!
In 2013, the shop was purchased by Tricia and Ricky’s son, Will Davis. The coffee shop thrived under his ownership, and in 2016, he expanded the shop to include a full breakfast menu and grill. The shop was booming with business. Currently, Matthew Davis, the youngest Davis son, now manages Tricia’s Espresso and continues the wonderful service that his mother and father started years ago.
